The Karate Association Western Province was formed on 13 June 1992. This body is a result of the unity initiative and was a merger between three structures, nl. the NOSC Karate Union (National Sports & Olympic Commission), the COSAS Karate Association & NAKA WP (National Amateur Karate Association).

Its first elected President was Leon Beech, its General Secretary was Hoosain Narker and an additional member was Sanette Smit. All three still serve on the KAWP structure.
